I. Understanding Direct Primary Care
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a healthcare model where you pay our clinic directly instead of going through insurance for routine care. Like a gym membership for your health, you get access to our primary care and urgent care clinic and receive several other member benefits. All of this comes with an experienced medical provider who will help you look after your health year-round.
At DirectCare Indy, we work for our members — not for insurance companies. Because of this unique model, we can spend more time with each patient and pass on savings. That means same or next-day appointments, free generic prescription medication, and free preventive labs and bloodwork. Our goal is to make primary care as convenient, affordable, and personal as possible—that’s why we call it “today’s primary care.”
Traditional Primary Care appointments can often take weeks or even months to schedule. Patients typically have 5–10 minutes to discuss health concerns with a provider. These clinics charge co-pays for each visit, and you may receive unexpected bills in the mail. Because of the high number of patients per provider, clinics typically limit communication between appointments.
Direct Primary Care (DPC) appointments are typically scheduled by request on the same day or within 48 hours. Appointments often last 20 to 30 minutes or more. This gives you time to discuss what really matters—your overall health and wellness. Instead of co-pays and surprise bills, you pay one monthly fee with transparent pricing on additional premium labs and services only as needed.
“Concierge Care” and Direct Primary Care both offer personalized care through better access to your provider — but there are key differences. Concierge practices typically charge a membership fee on top of billing your insurance for each visit. That means that you can effectively pay twice for services covered. Direct Primary Care (DPC) clinics do not bill insurance at all.
Instead, we start with one simple monthly fee that covers your visits (with no co-pays and no follow-up claims). Plans can also be pre-paid quarterly (every 3 months), semi-annually (every six months), or annually (once per year). Since Direct Primary Care tends to be more affordable on a monthly basis, it is generally more accessible to a wide range of people when compared to concierge care.
We strongly recommend maintaining health insurance for major medical expenses. Insurance will need to be used for emergency room visits, hospitalization, surgeries, and specialist care. Think of DirectCare Indy as a convenient solution for all of your primary care needs as well as for minor illnesses and injuries through our urgent care services. Your insurance acts as a safety net for other (and often serious) health issues that may arise.
Many of our members choose high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) with lower premiums to pair well with the DPC model. To determine what’s best for your situation, we encourage all members to consult an insurance specialist to review your options.
DirectCare Indy membership plans cover primary care appointments, walk-in urgent care visits, preventive labs and bloodwork, generic prescription medicines, and more. However, our membership dues do not cover certain medical procedures and premium labs. These are offered as needed, with 100% transparent pricing at a discounted cash pay rate for our members.
Learn more about Membership Plans and Pricing and view our 100% Transparent Pricing on our website. In addition, please keep in mind:
- Direct Primary Care does not replace hospitalist and emergency care
- We do not provide specialist care, but our staff will make referrals when needed
- As a result, we strongly encourage all members to maintain adequate medical insurance
For many people, the answer is clearly yes. New DPC clinics have been launching across the US. in recent years because of the value of this model. DirectCare Indy members pay one predictable monthly fee and get same or next-day appointments, longer visits, direct access to their provider, and more. If you’ve ever struggled to get a timely appointment, felt rushed during a primary care visit, or been surprised by a medical bill, you may enjoy DPC and its many advantages.
When factoring in what one might typically spend on co-pays, urgent care visits, prescription medications and more through traditional insurance-based care, our members find that we can save them money while delivering a better overall experience. We encourage you to compare our plans against what you currently pay and see for yourself.

Our membership plans include an annual comprehensive physical and wellness review, primary care follow-up visits, walk-in urgent care visits, generic prescription medications, bloodwork, preventive labs, and more. We charge an additional fee for certain services that are not covered by DirectCare plans, and these are offered at discounted cash pay rates.
We provide the highest quality of care through affordable and flexible plans for our patients’ needs:
- Individuals and Couples (18+) — $130/mo for single adult, and $250 for couples in the same household

That means that you can cancel at any time with at least 30 days written notice.* We want you to stay because you love the benefits that DirectCare Indy brings, not because you’re locked in to a long-term contract.
* Members who pre-pay quarterly, semi-annual, or annual but cancel before their term is finished will be charged a fee.

We offer reductions on one-time registration fee ($100 for individuals | $200 for families) for pre-payment in advance. You can pay quarterly (every 3 months), semi-annually (every six months), or annually (once per year). Make sure to select this option during our online signup process.
Yes! As of 2026, Direct Primary Care memberships are eligible expenses for both Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). This means you can use pre-tax dollars for your membership.
Check with your HSA or FSA administrator for their payment process. We are happy to provide any documentation needed for reimbursement.
DirectCare Indy does not bill Medicare or Medicaid, and our membership plans operate outside of the scope of these programs. Those who are currently enrolled in Medicare cannot join our DPC program, and current members who enroll in Medicare while members of our clinic must notify us immediately upon enrolling in Medicare.
III. Medical Services and Appointments
Our clinic provides comprehensive primary care including preventive care (annual physicals, vaccines, health screenings), acute care (sick visits, minor injuries, infections), chronic disease management (diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid, asthma), and wellness services (weight management, nutrition counseling, lifestyle medicine).
We also provide care for basic women’s and men’s health, and more. If it falls under primary care or urgent care, we can take care of you. If and when you need a specialist, we’ll refer you to trusted specialists and help coordinate your care.
Once you sign up to become a member, you can schedule an appointment by calling or texting our office at 317-956-6288. We will do our best to get you in either on the same day or within 48 hours (depending on availability). If you call or text after-hours, our automated phone system stores your request. We do our best to respond during the next business day.
If you need an appointment several weeks or more ahead of time, simply call and request a date at your convenience. We also offer convenient telehealth appointments for qualifying issues when our members are unable to make it to the clinic.
It’s easy — simply text or call our clinic to ask questions or discuss issues related to your membership. You can also use our secure members portal to discuss issues with your provider, download lab reports, access medical records, and more.
We encourage members to send non-urgent questions, medication-related requests, or follow-up messages anytime. Our staff typically responds within 24 hours on business days. For matters related to membership or billing, you can call our office during business hours and we’ll help you right away.
As always, make sure to call 911 immediately in the event of a medical emergency.
IV. Prescriptions and Mail-in Pharmacy
DirectCare Indy providers prescribe medications when needed for appropriate conditions within primary or urgent care. Every member receives free generic medications through our mail-in pharmacy program, as well as common medications from our in-clinic pharmacy (i.e. antibiotics and more).
If a medication is not available through our mail-in program or in-clinic pharmacy, we will send prescriptions to your pharmacy of choice and can help you obtain the best prices. This includes new online discount pharmacies such as Amazon Prescriptions, GoodRx, or others.
We stock some of the most common generic medications and offer these to DirectCare members free of charge. If you need a medication that we have in stock, your provider will prescribe it for immediate pick up in our clinic. If not, we will order it to be shipped directly to your house through our mail-in pharmacy program.
That means no waiting in line at the pharmacy and no insurance card needed—just convenient and affordable access to the most common medications.
Yes! In addition to our in-clinic pharmacy, we partner with a company that offers pharmaceutical-grade vitamins and supplements. These can be ordered in our clinic and delivered directly to your home.
Ask your DirectCare Indy provider to recommend specific supplements tailored to your health needs and overall wellness plan. They will then help you to place the order in clinic and have it delivered directly to your door.

Yes! Once you join, you’ll be assigned a primary care provider who will take time to get to know you, understand your medical history, and work with you on improving your overall health by developing a personal wellness plan. This provider will be your main point of contact for all your primary care needs.
In situations when your provider is unavailable, another DirectCare team member may see you—but your primary provider will still follow up to maintain continuity of care. This is different from some traditional practices where you may end up seeing a different provider during each visit.
